Firstly, we argue that education was needed as instrument to overcome the crises of alternation of generations and to succeed human life safely, and therefore that nourishing or rearing a child was understood as the primary meaning of education. Secondly, we elucidate the inseparable relation between education and care in child-rearing, referring to Erikson’s concept of ‘generativity’ and modern concept of ‘educare’. Besides, we consider more again the concept of ‘care’, to show fundamental differences between care and education.
